Immigration cases may take longer to get resolved

People who have to go before an immigration judge for any reason may want to know how long it will be before they can have their case resolved. For some, learning that it could potentially take a decade before the resolution of their case is shocking news. This is particularly troubling for those who don’t want to remain in limbo about the immigration matter for that long period.

Recently, 20 immigration judges were fired, which is going to lead to more delays in a system that already has a backlog of more than 3.7 million cases. The backlog is considerable, even if you think about it on a per-judge basis. Each judge in the immigration system has a caseload of around 6,000. And, each day, more cases are added to that number.

A shifting trend in immigration

It’s reported that there are more procedures being handled through administrative procedures; however, that shifts some of the in-person cases away from people having their turn in court. When things are handled administratively, decisions are made based on what’s on paper instead of the individual at the heart of the case being able to give their side of the matter.

With the constant shifting of immigration regulations, it’s imperative that every individual who’s facing a matter that falls under this category has someone on their side who stays abreast of the most current information. This gives them the opportunity to review their options for addressing a specific matter.
